Trade Show Magician Singapore

Part 1 – Trade Show Magician Singapore

I thought I write  an article about magicians that perform at trade shows. I have done this a couple of times in Germany but so far not in Singapore. This month I was hired to perform for a client at the Motor Show Singapore. More about this in the next post (Case Study)

What are trade show magicians?

A partner to attract and inform booth visitors and potential leads. A professional trade show magician can be a powerful tool for increasing exhibit traffic and awareness of a company’s product or service among the exhibit attendees.

Expert trade show magicians are more than just entertainers. They partner with exhibitors across industries to attract visitors to trade show booths – and then actively promote company products and services during engaging performances.

To support your exhibiting sales objectives, these specialized performers spend a great deal of time before the show learning about your company, market positioning, products, essential selling points and benefits.

The tradeshow magicians script their shows beforehand to ensure your product or service is effectively integrated into the magic act to maximize message impact.

As a result, they can serve as a marketing partner in educating exhibit booth attendees about your product or service’s key points of distinction. While performing their illusions, magicians make sure your company information is emphasized.

A research study by Exhibit Surveys, Inc. shows that live demonstrations and entertainment in display areas are among the top methods for attracting incremental booth traffic. Additionally, professional tradeshow magicians receive high rankings for product awareness and recognition.

In addition to reinforcing your marketing messages, an effective and entertaining magician can attract more visitors to your exhibit and help you secure more sales leads for your post-show follow-up.

You can expect to invest anywhere from $1500 to $5,000+ a day, but the expense may be well worth it when their mix of sales and sleight of hand bring prospective customers to your booth.

During the hiring process, don’t look for the lowest fee and assume that any entertainer can work your exhibit. Rather, consider several professionals and compare their experience and skills in the event arena. Then ask for references of past performances. You may even request a live “demo” act to help you determine that you are getting value for your marketing investment.

Meeting friends at CTC performance

Last Friday I was hired by Roots Asia to entertain the customers and employees of CTC  at 1 Altitude. CTC is a japanese IT company providing wide-ranging solutions that cover all phases of the IT life cycle. I did an hour of close up magic during prior to the official start. At events like this I usually act as an Ice Breaker between the different groups – most of time the clients don’t know each other. I have background in IT and I also know CTC from time when I was working in Japan which made the initial start of the conversation easier.  I was also meeting friends at the CTC performance that I have worked together at other occasion: Sharlyn Lim who is a bilingual MC as well as Adam Chua one of the best caricature artist in town.

Dell Singapore hires Magician Stefan Ebinger

On December 11, 2014, I was hired to entertain the employees at the 25th anniversary of  Dell in Singapore. Dell  is one of the largest Computer manufacturer  in the world with about 114000 employees world wide. The celebration was held at the Star Performing Arts Center. It was set up to cater for about 480 people and I was the first presenter of the event.Dell Singapore hires Magician

With about 430 attending I delivered a 20 Minute stage presentation for the group with a lot of audience interaction. The Head of Dell Asia Pacific  was the next speaker on the program and my last effect transitioned into his segment. I had him come up on stage and handed him a sketch pad. I borrowed then an iPhone from an audience member and had 8-10 people add up and multiply numbers they chose on the calculator. The total number was 22111989 and it matched the number that I predicted on the sketch pad .  In addition to that it also matched the foundation day of Dell in Singapore 22/11/1989. It was a great lead in into the anniversary speech that followed.

If your organization can use an interactive show that will involve your employees and clients. please feel free to contact me, and if you need a new Laptop or Printer you can’t go wrong with Dell.

Magician Stefan Ebinger entertains at STT

Singaore Magician Stefan Ebinger entertains a crowd of 170 people at a corporate event for Singapore Telemedia Technologies at the Conrad Hotel Nov 28 managed by Muse Inc. I had 2 slots doing close up magic during the cocktail reception and a 20 minutes stage show after dinner. I love doing close up, since I do only sleight of hand routines I just have to pack minimal props and I am ready to entertain.

The event schedule was very tight we had to keep the timelines to avoid delays. Muse did an excellent job regarding the stage and tech set up. Usually I try to give the client some extra performance on stage (depending on the reactions) However in this case I had to stick to the 20 min to avoid a delay of the overall schedule. Here is a pre-event picture of the room.

Corporate Magician MICE Asia

About 10 days ago I participated in the MICE Asia 2014 Show at Suntec Centre in Singapore. This was the first and only show in Asia which focuses solely on networking between the buyers and sellers for the MICE industry. I was a two day exhibit with a conference taking place along side the exhibition. This brought together the industry’s top names to discuss: key event issues, recent venue and restaurant openings, guides on how to run events, event concepts, social media, how to negotiate when choosing venues, deciding on locations for events and general buying tips. As a corporate magician MICE Asia I did continuous short to attract booth traffic and potential leads. I have done that for clients at trade shows and it was fun to it for myself. I got many new leads and I am currently in the process of following up with them. I hope that this Exhibit will be back next year and I will definitely participate.

Magician Singapore performance updates

October was a busy month. I was performing mainly close up at various corporate events. One event was a marketing event from Zenith Watches. They invited existing and potential clients to further establish the brand in Singapore. As a special guest, they invited Felix Baumgartner the man who did the free fall from outer space – the motto of the event was achieving the impossible. It was hosted in the warehouse which was nicely set up. Below is a picture of the setup at the entrance.

Next was performances for the Visa award night at the Gardens by the Bay. Somehow my suit and tie matched the overall event…

Then I was working for Neuberger Berman at Boathouse and at an NTUC Income client event. I finished that week at the Hyatt Sunday Brunch performance. I guess I most have done 10 hours of card tricks that week… but I am not complaining… 😉

Performance update – corporate event ideas

Last night I was performing for Wacker Chemie Singapore at the Paulaner Brauhaus. It was the companies 100 year anniversary. Prior to the show the Client and I had a session to come up with corporate event ideas for this special occasion that included Wacker Chemie and the occasion. In the beginning they only wanted me to do close up magic prior and during the dinner at the tables. We decided to have also a quick 5 minute performance on the platform right after the CEO’s introduction speech. I came up with an effect whereby I handed out a sketchpad to the CEO. I borrowed then an iPhone from an audience member who opened the calculator app. Various people in the audience added multiplied subtracted numbers finally one person hit the equal sign. This person read out the number and it matched the number written on the sketchpad. However the number 13101914 also was the date of the foundation of Wacker Chemie 13. October 1914.  The picture below shows the reveal of the number.

Corporate entertainment idea – Visa Awards Night 2014

This week I was engaged to entertain at the Visa Awards Night at Waterview room at Gardens by the Bay. I only performed during the cocktail and photo taking session prior to the dinner for about 1.5 hours. Since the crowd was about 400 people I had to make sure to cover as many as possible. This doesn’t leave much time for each group. I tried to focus on groups of 6 or more and build a crowd during the performance. When a company is looking for a corporate entertainment idea for an event like this they usually require a performer that doesn’t need time to set up or that needs a lot of space. I believe that close up magic is one of the best options since you still have the interaction with the audience and it can be personalized for your company. The picture below was taken at the beginning of the event I think it was my first group.

German Magician Singapore

Last Saturday I performed close-up magic at the Association of Dutch Business people’s annual Gala Dinner. It was hosted at the Tamarind Hill restaurant.  The group consisted of about 150 guests most of them from the Netherlands. One might think that a German magician in Singapore isn’t a good match for a dutch event but even at football matches the 2 groups can celebrate together – just look at the last world cup. The setting for this event was very nice and the guests were receptive to the performance. I like venues where people are seated at big tables from 10-15 this doesn’t feel anymore like a close-up performance but rather a parlor show in a living room. 10 Tips for a successful engagement of conference entertainment Singapore

Part 3 of 3 on tips how to get the most out of corporate entertainment that you hire for your conferences

7. Never Have the Show after the Lucky Draw
This applies especially for Asian events where it is common to have a lucky draw as part of the event. From experience we know that people will leave after it because it is a natural end to any event. Save time and money if you cannot find another slot.

8. Be Aware of the Sequence of the Acts
If you have more than one act during your event make sure to speak with the respective performers regarding the sequence. It is not good to have a local favorite actor or comedian as an opener since he or she will hype up the audience and makes it tough for a follow on performer to regain the attention.

9. Place The Stage Show Before Any Speeches and Awards
It’s no secret that people switch off during the speeches and awards. This is especially true if food was served just prior to them.
You need to make sure that your guests are charged up, alert and listening to the speeches and awards; too much time and effort has gone into them to just to let them fall on deaf ears.
By having the entertainment before the speeches, you give people a chance relax, re-vitalize and become excited. At the end of the performance they will be amazed and feel alert, ready to hear your important messages.

10. Can the People at the Back see and hear the Stage Show?
When dealing with groups larger than fifty people, a stage or a riser should be used. Most acts can and will perform on the same level as the tables, but this stops a large number of people from seeing what is happening.
The same applies for the sound and lighting. Without either, the audience will have a difficult time understanding what is going on. Ask the performers regarding their requirement they should provide you with a technical rider

In Closing
When you hire an entertainer for a stage show, it is in your best interest to make use of him, or her, as best as you can. Great entertaining acts can become dull if the above tips are not applied. As the event organizer it is within your power to take care of these variables which could make your carefully planned event begin to unravel.
Always remember that when you hire a venue you have the right to ask for things to be done the way you would like them. Don’t allow the venue to stipulate things that will make your event dull, boring, or lose cohesion. If they baulk against your request, make sure to put your foot down.
