This was a busy week. The Sibos exhibit and conference was taking place in Singapore this week. Sibos is the annual conference, exhibition and networking event. Sibos is organised and facilitated by SWIFT, the global provider of secure financial messaging services. All the major banks and big commercial Software providers were present. There were are a lot of events going on and companies were looking for corporate event entertainers. I performed close up magic for 3 different banks on Monday and Tuesday. One was at the Boat House a nice Roof top bar opposite the Casino. On the picture I am getting ready for the performance. The other picture was taken at on of the MBS function rooms before the guests came in.

Corporate event entertainer amazes clients at Saxo Markets event
Saxo Markets provides institutional clients and their end customers with multi-asset execution, prime brokerage and trading technology. I was engaged to entertain their clients and employees at a cocktail party at the Singapore ArtScience Museum. The event photographer did send me some performance pictures.
During the F1 weekend from I had the pleasure to entertain people Wisma Atria as part of the Supercar Season at Wisma. I performed from Friday to Sunday 2 Stage shows and some close up in between for the shoppers at the Mall. To perform as an eventmagician in situations like this you have to attract a crowd similar to a busking show on the street. People have a different agenda and are not there to watch a performance. I really think of it as busking in suit and tie. It was fun and a good opportunity to practice my busking skills again. I was on the bill with a jazz band 2 models that took pictures with the shoppers.
90% of my performances are at corporate event but sometime I am hired for private events and I do enjoy them most of the time more (even so the money is usually less) because people are usually more receptive. The other day I got a phone call and was asked to entertain as a magician private event the adults at a kids birthday party… It was a lot of fun, I did close up and a quick set in front of the entire audience. Please note that I didn’t do the balloons in the picture … 😉
I made myself a present. I took a week of of to see Magic in Las Vegas and to attend a Magic Convention. It is a long trip and I am still jet lagged however it was great to see what other performers are doing and to get ideas. I thought give some feedback on Magic shows in Las Vegas that I saw. Please note these were not the big headliners like David Copperfield or Criss Angel.
I have seen his Magic show 3 times now and I can guarantee you will enjoy it. Mac is an amazing and funny person. A perfect mix of magic and comedy. His magic tricks are different even so he uses common magicians props like rope and cards. Every show is different because the volunteers he picks are different but no doubt Mac King makes all his improvs and shows funny! Go and watch it!
Gerry McCambridge does a 70 min mind reading show. It is a great act and he puts in a lot of humor that gets the show moving. I would recommend this show to anyone who wants to enjoy a show in an intimate setting without all the dramatic music and lights of some of the other more expensive shows. If you have young kids don’t bother I don’t think they get the effects. Here is photo from the show
mentalist in Vegas
Laughternoon
This is a fun little late-afternoon. Adam London is a really talented magician with slick mental tricks up his sleeves dealing with player cards. You will likely wonder how he is able to divine what audience members are thinking. There is significant interaction with the audience and a ton of stand up comedy. The show is a really good deal and at Fremont Street you can also see free entertainment outside. Check it out.
I save the best for last. This show really impressed me. Frederic da Silva is french he mixes mind reading with hypnosis and I was fooled multiple times. For me it was not about finding out how the things are done but here you can see a true professional at work. The show is interaction from start to finish with no dead spots. Highly recommended this is one of the best live magic shows I have seen.

Last week I was engaged by the Australian Chamber of Commerce as close up magician to entertain there members and sponsors at the night at the races at the Singapore Turf Club. There were about 200 guests present. The races are usually every 30 minutes over the course of an evening. It was on a great evening and most of the magic I do fits the theme in way. Especially effects with money and cards which is related to gambling. I got a lot of requests to predict the winner of the next race. It was a fun event and location. Here are some impressions:

Roving Magic at the Airline Pilot Association Singapore Dinner
I was engaged to entertain the guests with Roving Magic prior to the dinner at ball room at the Pan Pacific Hotel. It was a great audience but as performer you only have about an hour to engage with as many people as possible. This means the performance is cut from the usual 7-10 min to about 5 min. How can I ensure that people will remember it? By creating an effect that is connected with the event or the company that books me. I usually use customized cards that are exclusively printed for the event. See picture below. If there is only time to do one thing for a group it will be an effect with a card like that.

On July 3 I was hired to do close-up magic for an hour at the ICMAT conference at the Raffles City Convention Center. In my job, you meet a lot of other performers. This was the first time I came across a snake charmer. His name is Mohd Yusof and he is the only one in Singapore. He has been in the business for over 30 years and had a lot of interesting stories to share about his gigs and the people he met. He learned the craft from his Dad. He actually has a real King Cobra in his shows and when he pulled it out on stage at the conference he had the audience in stitches. He said it is still a baby but the critter was already about 3.5 m long. After his stage show, you could take pictures with him and the snakes. Not with the cobra… the snake on the picture is a python I think.

May 25 I was performing for Veeam Software, which is a information technology company developing backup, disaster recovery and virtualization management software. Veeeam just opened their office at central Singapore location and invited their partners to the office opening party for cocktails and snacks. As a Singapore magician I am performing quite often at events like this. The objective is to break the ice and make strangers start talking . It helps me that I have worked in IT for long time and I always try to use some general IT jargon in the presentation, like testing, project time, budget and requirements. The event was managed by Citrus Events the MC was friend of Sharlyn Lim if you ever need an MC for a corporate event give her a call
If you’re having a corporate event, company party (sales meeting, conference, dinner and dance, retirement party, etc.), and would like some world-class fun and interactive entertainment to amaze, break the ice, and entertain your guests, please keep me in mind.
