Event: Mar 8 – McKinsey – 85 Employees
Venue: McKinsey office
Package: Close Up & Personal Show
Corporate events usually take place in the evening at a function room in a hotel or a cocktail bar. This gig was different McKinsey, a global management consulting firm that serves leading businesses and governments hired my services for a lunch event. Events like this remind me a little of indoor busking shows since nobody expects entertainment at lunch. Even though I had a nice introduction, crowd building skills came in handy.

Corporate event entertainers at Sibos
/0 Comments/in Performance Update /by adminThis was a busy week. The Sibos exhibit and conference was taking place in Singapore this week. Sibos is the annual conference, exhibition and networking event. Sibos is organised and facilitated by SWIFT, the global provider of secure financial messaging services. All the major banks and big commercial Software providers were present. There were are a lot of events going on and companies were looking for corporate event entertainers. I performed close up magic for 3 different banks on Monday and Tuesday. One was at the Boat House a nice Roof top bar opposite the Casino. On the picture I am getting ready for the performance. The other picture was taken at on of the MBS function rooms before the guests came in.

eventmagician

During the F1 weekend from I had the pleasure to entertain people Wisma Atria as part of the Supercar Season at Wisma. I performed from Friday to Sunday 2 Stage shows and some close up in between for the shoppers at the Mall. To perform as an eventmagician in situations like this you have to attract a crowd similar to a busking show on the street. People have a different agenda and are not there to watch a performance. I really think of it as busking in suit and tie. It was fun and a good opportunity to practice my busking skills again. I was on the bill with a jazz band 2 models that took pictures with the shoppers.

90% of my performances are at corporate event but sometime I am hired for private events and I do enjoy them most of the time more (even so the money is usually less) because people are usually more receptive. The other day I got a phone call and was asked to entertain as a magician private event the adults at a kids birthday party… It was a lot of fun, I did close up and a quick set in front of the entire audience. Please note that I didn’t do the balloons in the picture … 😉

Last week I was engaged by the Australian Chamber of Commerce as close up magician to entertain there members and sponsors at the night at the races at the Singapore Turf Club. There were about 200 guests present. The races are usually every 30 minutes over the course of an evening. It was on a great evening and most of the magic I do fits the theme in way. Especially effects with money and cards which is related to gambling. I got a lot of requests to predict the winner of the next race. It was a fun event and location. Here are some impressions:
Event entertainment

This week I was hired to do a stage show at the AOCC Commissioning Ball, at the W hotel on Sentosa. All guys in Singapore are called to serve the nation in the army, doing whatever guys are supposed to do best. At the end of the 2 year term the officer cadets have a ball. I was part of the event entertainment doing 2 sets of 20 min during the dinner. The MC that night was one of the local celebrities Chua Enlai. He is a Singaporean stage and television actor, best known for his work on the Mediacorp Channel 5 sitcom The Noose. The closing act was Hossan Leong a Singaporean TV Host and comedian. I enjoy other event entertainment acts, because it gives you the opportunity to see how they structure their show and how they communicate with the audience. Since I am a foreigner in Singapore I always try to find out what works and what doesn’t. I still have a lot of work to do for my stage act and it is not about the tricks.
